Here's a breakdown of Bitcoin ownership across the network in May 2025:
The Pareto Principle Applies to Bitcoin
At first glance, most people will think that there are around 1,000,000 people who own 1 BTC or more because there are around 1 million wallets in total with at least 1 BTC.
However, the Pareto Principle states that 20% of the inputs equal 80 of the outputs. A lot of Bitcoiners hold multiple wallets with at least 1 BTC in each one.
1 person could have 5 different wallets with at least 1 Bitcoin and appear to be 5 separate individuals.
In reality, owning 1 Bitcoin is extremely rare now that BTC crossed the $100,000 mark. There will be even fewer wallets with 1 BTC as Bitcoin approaches $1,000,000 by the end of 2030.
