How to Become a Passport Bro
I moved to SE Asia in 2017 and became a “Passport Bro” to enjoy a lower cost of living and more dating opportunities in my 30's.
If you're wondering about becoming a Passport Bro then learn from someone like me who has been living abroad for over 7 years.
What is a Passport Bro?
In recent years, the term “Passport Bro” has gained traction across social media and online communities. At its core, a Passport Bro is a man who chooses to travel internationally—often to developing countries—in pursuit of dating, relationships, or even long-term partnership outside of his home country, typically the United States or other Western nations.
Why Be a Passport Bro?
- Travel overseas and enjoy a lower cost of living compared to western countries like the United States
- Date foreign women who are still need men and respect a decent guy who can provide financially
- Save money on housing by renting a cheaper house or apartment in a foreign country
- Experience new cultures and learn new languages to expand your horizons
Step 1: Get Your Passport
Getting your passport is the first major step to becoming a passport bro. Your passport allows you to travel internationally around the globe to different foreign countries.
Passport Fees
- United States Passport Book: $130
- United States Passport Card: $30
- Passport Book + Card: $160
- Application Fee: $35

I renewed my US passport for the total cost of $165 in SE Asia. You have to wait around 3 to 4 weeks to receive your US passport in the mail. It will be a shorter process if you apply for your first time passport within the United States.
Step 2: Research Destinations
Not all countries are the same when it comes to dating cultures, cost of living, safety, and visa policies.
Common destinations among Passport Bros include:
- Latin America: Colombia, Brazil, Panama, Mexico, and Argentina
- Southeast Asia: Thailand, The Philippines, Malaysia, and Vietnam
- Africa: Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda
- Europe: Portugal, Spain, Germany, and France
I took my first trip as a solo passport bro to Costa Rica in 2010. It was an eye opening experience and taught me a lot about living abroad and dating foreign women.
I settled in Southeast Asia because it's cheap and feels much safer than other countries.
Step 3: Figure Out How You Will Earn Money or Make a Living
Most foreign countries make it difficult for Passport Bros to earn money without a proper work visa. It's crucial to have a solid financial plan before you travel abroad or you could end up broke and homeless in a foreign country.
I've seen it happen dozens of times to Americans who lose everything and wind up on the streets in a 3rd world dump!
I chose to make money online with several passive income ideas to build up a decent savings while living abroad.
Here's a couple popular ways to make your financially secure:
Step 4: Sell Everything You Don't Need
It's easier to travel abroad when you don't have as much stuff to worry about. I recommend selling everything you don't need because it will free up your mind and give you extra income for your journey.
List stuff on eBay or Amazon and get rid of all the junk you acquired over the years.
Step 5: Pipeline Women Before Your Trip
Meeting women in a foreign country can be challenging at first because you don't speak the local language. If you are traveling for a limited amount of time then I recommend meeting some foreign women online around 30 days before your trip.
It's nice to have a local girl waiting for you to arrive plus you won't need to look for women at dirty bars or nightclubs.
Step 6: Learn the Culture and Language
Cultural respect is a cornerstone of being a responsible Passport Bro. Invest time in learning the language—even basic phrases—and study local customs, gender roles, and dating etiquette. This not only improves your chances of forming genuine connections but also helps you avoid misunderstandings or offending your hosts.
Duolingo is a great resource for learning foreign languages from your phone.
Ultimately, becoming a Passport Bro is about more than dating—it's about expanding your worldview and embracing new experiences. Done with integrity, it can lead to meaningful relationships and a richer life.
